As we approach Martin Luther King Jr day we are reminded of the great sacrifices that have been made in the name of equality, as well as the distance we still have to go.
While a majority of the S&P 500 companies now offer same sex/ partner benefits, there are still many corporations that don’t yet honor partners. One of the ways that we have been able to honor leaders of equality is that Brady was honored to serve on the nominating committee for theHarvey Gantt Triumph Award, based here in Charleston. For those unfamiliar with Mr. Gantt he was the first African American to attend Clemson University and later became Charlotte’s first African American Mayor in 1963. This year the award is being given posthumously to Edward M Kennedy and will be received by his son, former Congressman Patrick Kennedy. For those of you in the Charleston area, we hope that you can join us for the award ceremony:
Sunday January 15, 2011 at 4 p.m.
There is a Keynote by Congressman James Clyburn and Patrick Kennedy.
