BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina opened its first retail store in the state in Mount Pleasant on Friday, January 23.
The Charleston Regional Business Journal has the better reporting on it, saying in part:
A Lowcountry location was picked for the first store in South Carolina because of the company’s “great relationships” with the agents in the region and the community, Fischer said. That was evident Friday morning with members of town council and the business community showing up with chamber leaders and agents.
On one hand I'm a bit perplexed by this as it makes little sense to me to have a storefront where you don't sell anything, but on the other hand the complexity of insurance makes it far more likely that I'll use BlueCross's for their in person guidance next time around.
BlueCross BlueShield Division President David Pankau said in a press release:
Our SC BlueStore is designed to provide a comfortable and informative space for a customer to discuss insurance. Cutting through the confusing world of insurance terminology, we plan to provide clear and concise information to help them select the health insurance plan that is right for them. This will be a much more satisfying personal experience in a convenient retail setting.
The 1,800-square-foot store is located in The Plaza at East Cooper Shopping Center at 615 Johnnie Dodds Boulevard in Mount Pleasant.
The store will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturdays.
