Update May 24: The Island Packet writes that work is expected to starte in early June on the first area of improvements — on Duke Street from Bladen to Harrington streets (map below).
First reporting: The Island Packet is reporting that the City of Beaufort has received a $500,000 grant to improve the street conditions -- gutters, lights, pavement, sidewalks -- of Duke Street.
The money would help improve the stretch from Bladen to Harrington streets and if the project is a success a second round of funding could carry it down to Carteret Street.
